A Useless Decision ?

A newspaper's headline:
"Women now to enter the cave of Baba Balaknath Temple."
First thought that appeared in my mind was “Wow! That’s a great news.” So finally everyone has recognized and accepted that women are equal to men. Not specifically talking about this case but all those recent cases, where women struggled to get equal privileges as men enjoy; met so much protest but in the end got their rights.
And it in fact is right because when God has created men and women equally and has given them the same qualities as given to men, then why do we humans discriminate between them.
In my opinion the decision taken by Himachal Pradesh High Court is fair and appreciable.
After reading the news, I went to meet my friend, Akanksha and told her about the decision of the HC. She was glad about the verdict. She said," It's a good step and will surely contribute towards the equal treatment of men and women."
Good! She agrees with me. (Well, I knew she would agree with me because that’s how you choose your friends)
Then time spent and the wait for my Nani finally came to an end. As soon as she reached home, I told her everything, just as fast as a parrot and also asked about her experience going to that temple.
She said," It was good but I eventually felt that when God hasn't restricted anyone from worshipping him, then why have the humans?" I told her,"  Don’t worry Amma, you won’t feel that now. The time is pointing towards a change and this decision of HC is a big step towards that change."
Next morning, the first thing that I wished to do was to see the newspaper because I knew it would be full of opinions about the recent decision of HC.
And it really was. (Who doubts that?)
In a special pullout of an esteemed newspaper, there was a very elaborated and illustrated news report on this decision. In a section there were views and comments of common people.
I was shocked to see (actually read) the views of some women who said that it was not a good decision as the restriction on entry of women to the temple was a ritual, which was being followed from ages.
I mean, like what?
This is the biggest problem of our country, lack of awareness and blind faith. The women, who need to be aware about their rights, struggle if they find anything wrong, are saying this. It's just depressing!
Don't know whether women are saying this in the fear of God, under the pressure of the men of their family or they themselves do not want to get entry into the temple? And it's really amazing that even when they are getting their rights without any efforts, they still don't want to enjoy them. Kudos to the lady, who fought against this unjust ritual.
The other day, a woman entered the temple for the first time but what about others?
The turmoil in my mind will continue till I don't find an answer

  2. Allowing women devotees in Balak Nath temple is a very good step ending centuries of decrimination against women.
I had written about this issue in The Tribune while posted at Hamirpur.Even then a lady Deputy Commissioner of Hamirpur was unable to do much again the ban.
    Good thought provoking issue

  3. You described your words so perfectly, well done. And the issue of women's rights is not the new one. You are absolutely right, the lack of awareness and blind faith are the biggest problems. But increasing knowledge and awareness is the key to end this up. Bdw this was so inspirational writing. Hoping more to come from you👍.
